  1. We have decided to write about Elliot Hall - a building on the academic campus. As the sign in front of Elliot Hall reads, it is a historical building not only for OWU but also in the entire state of Ohio. But more on that in the wiki. For the purpose of this paragraph, Elliot hall is the oldest building in the University. By writing on this building, we hope to understand the Delaware community and the State from a perspective pre-dating the civil war. We also hope to understand how structures like Elliot hall developed the OWU spirit. And lastly, we hope to relay the story of Elliot Hall's flooding that happened just a few years ago. I will be writing on Pre-OWU Elliot. Ethan will write on different departments housed by the building over 17 decades of this school, Milany will write on the recent flooding and Steven will explore some beautiful stories about the building - there are many.

  2. For our Wiki assignment, my group and I have decided to focus on the tradition of Ohio Wesleyan University’s athletic department. The purpose of this is to explain how the athletic program at OWU has helped to shape the university, recruit new students and create a sense of school spirit. With over 1/3 of the student body participating in varsity sports, the athletic program has attracted countless numbers of student-athletes to campus. We will focus on 3 of the university’s most successful sports: Men and Women’s Track & Field, Men’s Lacrosse and Men’s soccer as well as how/what these sports have contributed to OWU. Our refutation will talk about the importance of other aspects on campus, such as artistic and academic. I will specifically be writing about the men’s lacrosse team. An aspect that makes the men’s lacrosse team at this school particularly interesting is the level of skill on the team and the success they have as a program. This success includes 20 NCAC Championships, as well as an undefeated 2015 season up until a loss in the NCAA division III quarterfinals.

  3. My group and I decided to write about the history and legacy that Hiram Perkins left on Ohio Wesleyan University. According to Ohio Wesleyan’s website, Professor Perkins was a respectable man that utilized his profits from providing food for the Union Army to establish an observatory at the university in 1923. He created an observatory that researchers, astronomers, and even the public can use. His contributions have brought recognition and pride to the university. Our group divided the project into the history of Hiram Perkins, the Perkins Observatory, and the Peace and Justice House. I will be writing about the Perkins Observatory. I found it very interesting that the Perkins Telescope was actually temporarily moved to Arizona in order for its capabilities to be fully utilized, and it was temporarily moved to Ohio State University for research purposes in exchange for funding for the Perkins Observatory.

  4. The topic that our group has decided on is the role of Elliot Hall and its overall history to not only Ohio Wesleyan, but also the state of Ohio itself. Elliot Hall is a historical building that has played a huge role in the development of Ohio Wesleyan, and an important role in the State of Ohio also. The purpose of the Wiki is to shed some light on a building that has been through so much history, and contributed so much to Ohio Wesleyan. In our wiki, we will examine the history of Elliot in the state of Ohio, its role in the history of Ohio Wesleyan, the infamous flood of Elliot in 2012, and many other unique stories that have taken place at Eliot. I will write about the how Eliot Hall has contributed to the rich history of Ohio Wesleyan.

  5. The topic that my group decided on is the role of the sulphur springs. Legend has it that during the 1950s, a methodist preacher discovered them while living In the confines of Elliot hall. Then a few years later he made this very university. My role is to introduce the fact that Ohio Wesleyan has some grit behind it and to inform them that Ohio Wesleyan is not just another pretty campus but more so a rolling Stone of campuses world wide

  6. Our group’s wiki page will be about the athletic department at Ohio Wesleyan, Specifically the traditions behind it, and how important the department is to campus. There are three different sports we will be focusing on, Track & Field, Men’s Lacrosse, and Men’s Soccer. We will also be refuting this idea by giving examples of how Academics and other parts of campus are more important and have longer standing traditions. I will be writing about how Academics and other aspects of the OWU campus are more important than athletics. For example, the tradition of Convocation, where the entire freshman class comes together during orientation, the only other time this happens is during Commencement, which occurs during senior year.

  7. The topic my group has decided to write about is how the athletic department at Ohio Wesleyan has helped shape the school into a renowned university. The athletic department’s core values are pride and tradition and reflect the school in this way. The sports teams that we will focus on are Track and Field, Lacrosse, and Soccer. There will also be a refutation about how other departments have helped shaped the school too. The purpose of this wiki is to inform students and faculty at Ohio Wesleyan how these programs are instrumental to the schools success as a top liberal arts school. I will be writing about the soccer team and how the soccer team thrives for success through pride and tradition. This entails the tradition of the program as well as the tradition of the coaches and how they have succeeded in repeating this for many years. An example of this is head Coach Jay Martin. When he took over the Men’s Soccer team, he was not only able to keep the traditions of the team; he was able to elevate them. He has the most wins in college throughout division 1, division 2, and division 3 sports. This makes the soccer team one of the most prestigious teams is division 3 soccer.

  8. My group and I have decided to write about the founders of Ohio Wesleyan, Adam Poe and Charles Elliot. In 1841, both men decided that there was a need for a university of higher learning in central Ohio. To better understand these founders and their impact, our group has decided to focus on four main topics, the founders background, how Ohio Wesleyan went about being founded, why the school was founded as a methodist school/ where is got its name from and some early campus history. I will be focussing on early campus history. Just to think that Ohio Wesleyan started out with a first year class of 29 students, now with an incoming freshman class of 458 students, is absolutely amazing.

  9. In my groups wiki assignment we will be covering the athletic department at Ohio Wesleyan. More specifically we will be arguing that sports here have shaped the tradition and give a reflection of the university as a whole. We have divided into four separate parts where three of us will be covering a sport each (Track, Soccer, and Lacrosse) and the fourth will be the opposition to our argument. I will be writing about the Track & Field program here at Ohio Wesleyan, and how the tradition of the program reflects the University as a whole. I believe the Track & Field Program is a very interesting one to write about because of the amount of success they have achieved as a whole. According to the Battlingbishops website, both the men and women have won a combined 53 indoor/outdoor conference title.

  10. The topic that my group has chosen to write about is the History of Elliot Hall and the role it has played throughout history. Elliot Hall is a building that is behind Stuges and right across the lawn from Marick Hall, and it has, overtime, played a huge role in Ohio Wesleyan history as well. The purpose of this wiki is to look at Elliot Hall from a historical perspective and learn about not only the building itself, but what the building has done and who has been in it. The wiki will divided into three parts, Elliot Hall as a hospital, Elliot Hall as a host to Soldiers, and finally the current history of Elliot Hall. The part that I will be writing about is Elliot Hall as a hospital. This part could is very interesting because the time and state of Elliot Hall is a mystery and that is what I will be researching to find out and clarify.

  11. The topic which my group agreed to write about is the Sulphur Springs. Sulphur Spring was a famous vacation spot in the 1950s which was later moved to the building we now call Elliot Hall. Elliot Hall stands behind Sturges Hall and across Merrick Hall. My groups goal is to show one of the many significant facts of Ohio Wesleyans campus and the way the Sulphur Springs have played a major role in its history.

  12. When thinking of ideas of what our wiki should be about, there were an enormous amount of options to pick from. There is a lot of history that goes along with this campus, and we thought it would be a good idea to dedicate out wiki to the historical building they now call Elliot Hall. Elliot Hall has a lot of history and we wanted to go through the years since its been built and read all about the events that had taken place inside, and more information about it. This wiki is not just for us either, we want to teach others about Elliot Hall, because like myself I bet that most of Ohio Wesleyan students do not know a whole lot about it except that classes are held there now. To give the reader more information about Elliot, we wanted to divide it into different parts, and decided to split up the history into the role in Ohio Wesleyans history, the founding of the hall, the flooding of 2012, and the stories that are associated with the building. We all discussed the parts that will go into the wiki and I was given the stories that are associated with the building. I did not know a lot about Elliot before starting this project but as I looked more in depth, I found many cool and interesting stories that I never knew about. One of the stories that I came across occurred many years ago when Elliot was a hotel. I will not go into too much detail but it involves a murder and a ghost that may haunt the hall now a days.

  13. Although our mascot is a bishop, not many students understand where that came from. Let alone do they know how Ohio Wesleyan came to be the great institution we attend today. Hidden behind Phillips hall what was the start of Ohio Wesleyan: the sulphur springs. Back in the early to mid 1800’s, the sulphur springs were thought to have healing qualities. With this attraction, what we know today as Elliot hall was built. Originally called the mansion house, it was used as a hotel for people to stay at when indulging in, what they believed to be, the healing sulphur springs. It was a very popular spot even so that President Rutherford B. Hayes met his future wife at the sulphur springs. A downturn in the economy caused the resort to be shut down. In 1841, Adam Poe, a Methodist pastor, and several citizens of the Delaware community came together to purchase the property to form a Methodist college for men. Shortly after, the Ohio Wesleyan Female college merged to create a coed Ohio Wesleyan University, the great establishment we are students of today.

  14. The Wiki that our group chose to write about was the basic founding of Ohio Wesleyan University. The wiki page will include stuff about the founders of the university, the early history of the school and everything about the founding of Ohio Wesleyan. The purpose of our wiki is to inform everyone reading the history of who founded this wonderful liberal arts school, and how exactly it was formed back in 1844. Our group has divided this task into four equal parts. These parts include; The founders early history, how exactly the university was formed, early history about the university, and why the school is methodist and where that idea of a methodist university came from. I personally will be writing about why Ohio Wesleyan University is methodist and where the idea of having a methodist school came from. Being a methodist university is a very important part of Ohio Wesleyan and a big part of the university’s identity. Ohio Wesleyan University is a methodist school that everyone here chose to attend, it is important to know where the history of our methodist school came from since it is a part of who we are.

  15. As Ohio Wesleyan University students, we are ever grateful of such academic establishment by Adam Poe and Charles Elliott. To understand the foundation of OWU better, my group decided to take on the task of discern through learning more about the founders of OWU. With that mindset, we are going to dive deep into the background life of Adam Poe and Charles Elliott, how exactly did they founded OWU, the early establishment of OWU, and the Methodist association of OWU. The reasoning behind the founding of OWU, and why the founders decided to build a liberal high education school in central Ohio intrigued me. Poe and Elliott wrote a charter emphasizing "the democratic spirit of teaching", which was approved by the Ohio State Legislature. Early in the following year they opened the college preparatory Academy and formed a Board of Trustees. Ohio Wesleyan's first president, Edward Thomson, stated in his inaugural address on August 5, 1846 that the school was "a product of the liberality of the local people." While benefitting from the liberal art education that we receive today, it is important to learn to learn about the ideas behind the foundation of OWU as a liberal art school.

  16. The topic that our group has chosen for wiki assignment is how Ohio Wesleyan started out as. To trace back the origin of school, we will talk about the Methodist background of the school and about the founder. By doing this assignment, we can newly learn and be reminded of liberality which was the value that the institution was originally founded upon. In addition to the parts about the religious background and the founder, there are also parts about foundation and early campus history in terms of size. I will be writing about the founder and an interesting thing is that the school was basically founded by the residents of Ohio.

  17. The subject of this wiki will focus on the athletic aspect of owu; specifically, the stories and accomplishments of successful athletes, many of witch were from out of state. Our group will attempt to understand why owu appears to be such an attractive program for students with athletic interests. The propose of this article will be to provide a broad account of owu’s athletic history using specific memorable athletic feats. The article will be divided into four parts, each focused on one or two owu students who achieved great athletic success; both in college, as well in their athletic careers. Although I have not yet found enough information to accurately describe an owu student athletic accomplishments, I am more then certain I will be successful in doing so in the near future. Owu is well known for its more then accomplished soccer team, as well as its diverse athletic program for both men and women.

  18. The topic my group decided on was on the athletic history surrounding Ohio Wesleyan and how it positively affected the university and its athletes. Approximately one-third of the student body here at Ohio Wesleyan are student athletes, which brings an interesting question to why athletes are attracted to the university’s athletic program. The wiki will go into depth about the Battling Bishops part in the NCAA Division III that compete in the North Coast Athletic conference.
This wiki will also investigate why many of the athletes all over the country are attracted to OWU to participate in twenty-two varsity sports sponsored at this university. And we will seek out why many of the alumni have gone beyond the collegiate level and played professionally. The wiki will also go into depth about successful alums that have emerged from OWU’s athletic programs such as Branch Rickey and Keith Rucker.

  19. Ohio Wesleyan University holds a lot of uniquely characteristics; its small community, beautiful buildings, wonderful professors, and the remarkable history behind this school. For the wiki page my group took interest in Elliot hall, being educated on its history over the years, and what the variety of events that Elliot was used for. Being turned into a hospital, soldiers being guests at Elliot, and the overall history since 1842. The part that I will be researching is soldiers staying in Elliot hall. I am looking forward to learning how much Elliot impacted the soldiers.

  20. Students often feel a presence behind them or hear strange noises out of nowhere. They get a sense that the school, and even some of the students themselves, is often frequented by supernatural spirits and ghosts. We will be investigating the history of Ohio Wesleyan University and why it is known as one of the “most haunted colleges in the country.” Through this Wiki, we will be exploring the different buildings on campus, and the stories that they hold. Ultimately, we will uncover how the paranormal activity impacts the students and the school—whether the stories of ghosts and spirits make the university more lively or dismal. I will be focusing on Monnett Garden, formerly known as Monnett Hall, which was torn down in the late 1970s because of suspicious, abnormal activity.

  21. The topic of the wiki will consist of historic players, coaches, teams, and events tied in with athletics. A large percentage of students at Ohio Wesleyan are student-athletes. This wiki will also discuss the strength of the athletics, and the drive for so many students to come and play sports at OWU. The wiki will also discuss the mark made on OWU by certain individual athletes. This group will look into what it takes to be a successful student-athlete not only at OWU, but the NCAC and Division III as a whole. It will also discuss all the athletic programs’ success in bringing in students from all over the country.

  22. The wiki article we chose discusses the history of Professor Hiram Perkins and his impact on Ohio Wesleyan. Part of his legacy left behind, was the infamous Perkins Observatory. This famous landmark has been used since 1923. The observatory was built with money left by Perkins himself. Perkins taught Mathematics and astronomy at Ohio Wesleyan and the great observatory he left behind is still used today by astronomy classes. Besides leaving behind his famous observatory, his legacy and wisdom also were left behind. He will always be apart of this university.

  23. For the group Wiki assignment, my group and I decided to explore Ohio Wesleyan University’s haunted past, present, and future. For individuals visiting the campus it is easy to feel a paranormal presence. It makes one question if ghosts and haunted buildings really do exist. To answer this long standing question my group and I will investigate Ohio Wesleyan’s paranormal history. We will uncover and report the allegedly haunted sites on campus, why they are deemed haunted, and see how they have impacted Ohio Wesleyan’s students and history. In this wiki, I will write about Stuyvesant Hall, which was formerly an all girls dormitory. It has been said that in the 1950’s several girls living in that dorm went missing due to the events that happened in Stuy’s secret sealed room.

  24. One of the more well know Ohio Wesleyan facts is the disturbing number of creepy hauntings that have occurred on campus. There are several buildings on campus that are said to be haunted, and each tale comes with differing levels of realism. Some stories, like the dead bodies wrapped in animal skin, are confirmed to be true. While others are mostly likely just ghost stories being told amongst college students. The purpose of our wiki is the evaluate each ghost story around campus, so that the students and faculty can all be more aware. Each member of our wiki group has taken one ghost story for themselves. I will be recounting the story of the 25 bodies wrapped in animal skin found on the fountain outside Merrick. The most interesting detail about my story is the fact that this is an actual confirmed event that happened here on campus, and nobody has ever been able to figure out why.

  25. Our group has decided to write about the legacy of Hiram Perkins, looking into the various facets which this takes form. Specifically, we are examining his career as professor at Ohio Wesleyan, as well as the observatory built in his name, and Perkins House known today as the House of Peace and Justice. The latter is the aspect I’ll be focusing on, as many of my friends have called it home in our years here. I think my topic is of particular interest right now as it was just announced that the house will be vacated come fall semester, much to the chagrin of its current residents.

  27. The topic of the wiki that our group chose was the ongoing history of Ohio Wesleyan athletics. As you may know, OWU is a very good school in all ways. We are especially strong in our elite athletics programs. Some of our athletic programs recognized nationally for there excellent records and coaches. The wiki will also Ohio Wesleyan’s basketball in particular is recognized nationwide. This wiki will also identify why many of the athletes worldwide are attracted to OWU to participate in sports sponsored at this university.
